Tata group and Robert H Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, to host third 'Tata Dialogue on Innovation'
R Gopalakrishnan of Tata Sons to lead discussion entitled Innovation: Some lenses on an opaque subject
Washington, DC: The Tata group today announced that it will host a “Tata Dialogue on Innovation” in partnership with and at The Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland (The Smith School). This program is the third in the series and will welcome special guest speaker R Gopalakrishnan, non-executive director of Tata Sons, for a conversation on how innovation is influenced by unique international and cultural perspectives. Joyce Russell, vice dean, University of Maryland, will moderate the discussion, which will take at The Smith School, Tyser Auditorium, Van Munching Hall.
“We have a long and rich history of innovation that has been critical to the success of our businesses,” said James Shapiro, resident director, Tata Sons, North America. “This discussion series with The Smith School is intended to leverage that experience and passion by sparking engaging conversations with a top business school.”
“This dialogue with Gopal presents an exciting opportunity for Smith School students, alumni and the business community to tap into the sage advice of a trusted advisor and proven leader,” said Smith School dean Alex Triantis. “Joining forces with the Tata group reflects our focus on developing solutions oriented, critical thinkers who will help shape the future business environment.”
Mr Gopalakrishnan is chairman of the Tata Group Innovation Forum, which supports Tata companies on their innovation journey and encourages, inspires and helps create a culture of innovation within the group. He is a world-renowned speaker, thought leader and best-selling author whose speeches and workshops are based on practical examples and tend to be anecdotal rather than based on analytical frameworks.
“While the world’s business landscape is shrinking through technology and other advances, consumers remain discerning about their individual preferences,” said Mr Gopalakrishnan. “As a result, brands are becoming more global and companies are increasingly required to break down barriers by incorporating perspectives from other countries and cultures.”
This upcoming discussion will be the third Tata Dialogue on Innovation event highlighting the partnership between the Tata group and The Smith School. Launched in April 2013, The Tata Dialogue on Innovation Speaker Series is a platform through which Tata executives across sectors and companies can provide thought leadership on the importance of innovation to the growth and culture of the Tata group.
